Part 1 - San Diego to Churchill

August 17: San Diego CA to Amarillo TX

The start of another journey to Churchill, this time with a fellow Tiger pilot. It was a nice day for 776 nm of flying on the first leg of our trip.

August 18: Amarillo TX to Oklahoma City OK

A relatively short flight to Sundance Airport, after which we got to visit some vintage aircraft at nearby Wiley Post Airport.

August 19: Okie Derby

My friend and I competed in the Okie Derby, an event similar to the Hayward Air Rally. The use of my JPI fuel flow monitor was allowed, but due to an unusually large measurement error we have yet to understand, it put us off nearly a gallon. Maybe it got fried. It was over 100F on the ground before noon. We placed 6th in a field of 16.

August 19: Oklahoma City

Between the morning derby and the evening awards banquet, we visited the State Capitol and the Oklahoma City National Memorial

August 20: Oklahoma City OK to Cavalier ND

After the Okie Derby, we headed north and escaped the heat. 790 nm later, after a fuel stop at Wessington Springs, we landed for the night at Cavalier.

August 21: Cavalier ND to Churchill MB

Like my last trip through Piney Pinecreek for Canadian customs, it was a damp MVFR morning. Conditions improved as we flew further north.
